Today I had some Christmas shopping to do, so I picked up Monkey Boy from kindergarten and we headed off to the mall. Now, I would normally shop without MB, but since his kindy is only 1/2 day that means he gets out a 11:15am. And the mall doesn't open till 10am....which doesn't leave me enough time to get there and back before kindy pickup.
Hence the 'taking MB shopping' excursion. Luckily the mall was fairly quiet and MB was in a good mood. We made a couple of returns, then went into Forever21 to look at the costume jewelry. MB LOVES the bling there. He can spend an hour just playing with the rings and bracelets. I couldn't find what I was looking for, but MB found something he REALLY wanted:
Yes, that's right folks: a beaded/sequined change purse. With a big ribbon on the front. Because every nearly-six-year-old needs a blinged out change purse to hold his quarters, dollars, and found rocks.
It could have been worse...he originally spied this purse in GOLD. But when he saw the black one, he said "Oh, this one is for boys!" and that's what we ended up buying. He immediately asked me to put his quarters in the purse, and then carried the purse all the way out the car.
Then we had to go back to school to pick up Little Man. Actually, the plan was to find LM and then take a quick gander at the book fair, which started today. My rule at the book fair is that I'll buy up to $20 of books for each kid, but I wil NOT purchase any of the junk toys on the center table. AUGH I hate that crap- it's all things like finger pointers, cheap electric gadgets and noisemakers and "books" that aren't really books...
MB had taken his blinged out change purse into the book fair to spend some of his own allowance money on the junk toys. Unfortunately, he only had $6 and there was nothing there for $6. He really wanted some book of Star Wars blueprints for $12, but since the book was on the center table, he knew I wouldn't buy it for him.
Cue the temper tantrum. Complete with big fat tears and lots of whining.
*sigh*
I was mean mommy and made MB go outside to stand in the hall while I finished paying for our books. When Little Man and I went outside, MB refused to go with us to the car. So what did Mean Mommy do?
I walked off and left him there of course!
MB stayed by the book fair door, crying, while I loaded Little Man and the books into the car. Finally we came around the parking lot and I went to get MB. He still didn't want to go...he was upset because he really wanted something from the toy table, but he didn't have enough money. I had to pick him up and carry him back to the car, where MB threw out plenty of crying and shrieking before I was able to shut the door.
The best part was to come, though: as we drove out of the school lot, Monkey Boy was SO. MAD. he threw his precious change purse out the window.
ZMOG
I was trying to hard not to laugh at him as I pulled over....he was PISSED! LOL!!!! Now what does Mean Mommy do?
Well, I had to go get the purse...but I told him the allowance and purse was all mine till he earned it back. Needless to say, he wasn't happy about that. He actually ended up screaming and crying in the car for another 30 minutes after we got home. I sat in the office and watched him crawling all over the seats, hollering and crying. I told him that as soon as he was ready to calm down, he could come inside.
Finally I heard the crying slow down and stop...and all of the sudden the car alarm went off...Oops! I'd locked the door and when MB tried to get out the horn started honking! Poor kid came screaming hysterical into the house because it scared him so much.
It took all this Mean Mommy had not to laugh again...!
(and yes, he earned his allowance back by cleaning up the family room and helping me to bake some goodies for the bake sale tomorrow...)
